Caffeine and carbohydrate co-ingestion and soccer performance
The aim of this series of studies is to examine the effect of ingesting both caffeine and carbohydrate, within a well-formulated sports drink, during soccer-type activity on soccer skill and sprint performance

Thermoregulation during soccer in female players
Using intestinal temperature sensors we aim to quantify the core temperature of female players during 90-min of simulated soccer activity

Sensory evaluation of sports drinks during prolonged exercise
These experiments will investigate how athletes perceive different ingredients of sports drinks during prolonged exercise.

Graduated compression stockings and exercise
We aim to find out whether wearing compression garments can actually benefit runners during exercise and/or in the recovery period following training sessions.

Papers Taught

214.170 Introduction to Structural Kinesiology
An introduction to the musculo-skeletal aspects of human movement with emphasis on sites of muscle attachment, joint structure, and the way in which they determine direction of motion about joints.

234.203 Exercise Physiology
A study of the function of human biological systems as they relate to sport and exercise. Acute responses and the chronic adaptations to sport and exercise, specifically in relation to the core topics of human energetics, muscle, cardiovascular and respiratory systems.

234.303 Exercise Physiology II
An examination of physiological mechanisms relevant to the limits of human sport and exercise performance, and how these change in different environmental conditions, at different stages of the life-cycle, and with impaired health.
